Special Olympics event at bowlo as Open Mic debuts

A SUPPORTER of the group for the past 10 years, Padstow Bowling Club hosted the AGM of the Special Olympics (SO) – Flinders division followed by a game of friendly bowls.

SO chairperson Natalie Johnston thanked all volunteers for their efforts and congratulated participants on their determination and commitment.
“Thanks also to Padstow Bowling Club for the use of their venue for our club day, bocce training and financial contribution towards our athletes,” she said.
This event followed the debut of the club’s Friday ‘Open Mic Night’, hosted by Songs on Stage’s Russell Neal, to give local participants the chance to get up on stage and unleash their inner rock star.
“It’s all about providing performance opportunities for songwriters and other musicians,” the club’s Glenn Rorison said.
“With our successful, club-owned and operated restaurant, it is both enjoyable for the spectators and an opportunity for the participants so more are invited to come on down on Friday nights and have some fun.”
He also said that young people are invited to come along to the club and get a taste of bowls.
“Our junior membership is still growing and is now the largest in Zone 12,” he said.
“We have two dedicated coaches, Gray and Jason, as well as longtime member and former CEO Bob who all do a great job.”
