Special Olympic service win

One of 20 recipients from a wide cross-section of sports to receive an award, Gibson has volunteered with Special Olympics for the past 26 years after completing a coaching course for athletes with a disability in 1993.
He introduced the tennis program to Special Olympics and has been a weekly volunteer coach ever since.
Throughout his time with Special Olympics, he has been Head Coach for the NSW tennis team at the last six Special Olympics National Games, Head Coach at the 1995, 1999, 2003 Special Olympics World Games, and a Technical Delegate at the 2007 and 2011 Special Olympics World Games.
Sport NSW Chairperson, Carolyn Campbell, said Gibson was a worthy Award recipient and Sport in NSW relies on people like him who have voluntarily dedicated their time over many decades.
“Put simply, sport would not exist without them,” Ms Campbell said.
