Social enterprise cafe on boil to help young with disabilities

BREWING up a way to support people with a disability, Tender Loving Care Disability Services (TLC) has launched the Frapp & Capp Shack Cafe in Bankstown.

The social enterprise cafe gives people with disability the opportunity to discover training and employment pathways in hospitality and create community connections.
Laura Cowell, recently appointed as CEO Australian Operations at TLC, said the café was established to address a gap in the employment and services market for beneficial employment pathways.
“Many of the NDIS participants we work with every day experience discrimination and bias while searching for employment; social enterprise cafes like Frapp & Capp are essential to creating a more inclusive and equitable society,” she said.
“We’re on a mission to demonstrate disability is not a barrier to successful training and work opportunities.” A guest at the cafe launch where certificates were presented to participants who successfully completed the barista course, Cr Khal Asfour said the community was full of diverse and innovative thinkers, driven to create inclusive solutions for all.
“The spirit and energy that TLC is bringing to this initiative is contagious and I for one can’t wait to enjoy a coffee from their newest cafe,” he said.
With a delicious range of hot and cold drinks, light meals and snacks, Frapp & Capp Shack Cafe is open to the public Monday to Saturday, 7am-3pm.
