Snap up scene to win $100

WITH the holy month of Ramadan starting this week, residents are invited to celebrate by snapping a picture that captures ‘what Ramadan means to you’ for the chance to win $100.

Using the hashtag #RamadanInCumberland on Facebook or Instagram, you can submit a photo of a family gathering during Iftar or your local mosque.
The council is also cooking up something exciting to get into the Ramadan spirit with an outdoor dining experience at the Auburn Central forecourt from May 7-9.
“We’ll have surrounding eateries and food trucks serving up delicious and authentic food under the night sky alfresco,” said Mayor Steve Christou who was joined by Councillor Tom Zreika at Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School for a Ramadan cooking class.
You can get some tips and check out online how they learned to prepare a traditional Lebanese Iftar called fatteh.
The Mayor said he extended his best wishes to the Muslim community.
“Now is the time to reflect on the wisdom that for many people comes with faith,” he said.
“It’s a time to honour each day of Ramadan as a day of patient endurance through fasting, and each night as a night of gratitude through prayers.
“It is also an opportunity for families and friends to extend their generosity to the less fortunate.”
Australia is home to nearly half a million Muslims, with the Australian Muslim community being diverse and drawn from several ethnic backgrounds.
“Here in Cumberland City, Islam is one of the largest religious groups,” the Mayor said.
