Smooth start to school year for anxious families

OLD Guildford Public School’s Kindergarten students, Sakina Haider and Mohsin Abbas, were among 67 children who got off to a flying start in big school earlier this month

HOPING for the best but planning for the worst, Old Guildford Public School Principal Helen Morgani says the first week back at school went extremely smoothly.

“It was wonderful,” she said.
“We were so pleasantly surprised that 98 per cent of our parents had collected Rapid Antigen Tests from their children, although it was not compulsory.
“We have always trusted our school community wholeheartedly and it was fantastic to see them all trying to do the right thing to keep their children as safe as possible.”
The medium-sized infants and primary school welcomed 67 children on their first day in Kindergarten but almost half had been attending the school’s preschool last year.
“Even for those children who didn’t attend the preschool, we have a very strong transition to school program so we had already met all of the new parents and gotten to know the families prior to the children starting school,” Mrs Morgani said.
“We are proud and feel very lucky that the 2022 school year has started so well and can’t wait to celebrate our students’ learning and success as the year unfolds.”
