Six decades serving with Padstow Rotary

NOT only celebrating his 94th birthday this year, Kevin Bouffler is also marking his 60th anniversary with Padstow Rotary and along with wife Margaret, has been honoured at a dinner.

Kevin joined the club on June 22, 1961, and is still actively involved in club projects serving local and international communities.
Operating Boufflers Pharmacy on the River Road at Revesby for 42 years after retiring in 2000 at age 72, the hard-working Rotarian also found time to raise four sons and keep diligent records of all the minutes of the meetings.
“In fact, Dad kept those minutes from the 1957 chartering of the club to today, and recently presented the collection to Bankstown Library as it provides a wonderful glimpse into the district’s past,” son Michael said.
Crediting Rotary with helping to keep him young, Kevin has served in many roles including Sergeant at Arms, Club Bulletin Editor, Program Manager, Public Relations Officer and Historian.
In 1984, he visited the South Pacific to establish the Pacific Australia Cultural Exchange Program which saw exchanges for students with Sydney.
In 1997, he was honoured with a Paul Harris Fellowship and has attended many overseas conventions since that time.
Past Rotary International Treasurer Barry Thompson said: “Kevin is highly regarded by club members, being noted for his warm welcoming to new members and his commitment to serving others.”
Saying he is chuffed to be the oldest member at Padstow now, Kevin said it was getting harder to find people willing to give up their time and join service clubs such as Rotary.
“But it has many benefits especially for young people as a way to get life experience and exposure to others who work in a range of industries,” he said.
“It is very satisfying helping others too and you get a big sense of achievement learning about different areas and getting things done.”
