Singers sought for historic gaol show

AUBURN chorister and River City Voices member Naomi von Senff is excited to help create a whole new vocal soundscape as part of ‘Super Critical Mass’ which launches via a series of workshops later this month.

The ground-breaking, immersive, voice and sound collaboration, performance project has travelled the world.
Open to everyone of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, the workshops will take place in a unique setting – Parramatta Gaol – on March 18, 25 and April 1, 10am-1pm, with a concert to follow the last workshop on April 1, 2-3pm, and open to the public.
This concert will broadcast at a later date at Sydney Olympic Park and Powerhouse Parramatta.
New-York based Australian composer and artist, Julian Day, who will lead the project, said: “It’s all about using the workshops to create a brand new soundscape with input from all participants and inspired by, in this case, the striking and historic spaces and buildings of Parramatta Gaol.”
“No experience is needed. We’ll work with everyone’s unique voice and skill level, and bring the piece together for performance with the help of simple instructions.”
Starting with River City Voices in their first home at Granville Town Hall in 2019, Naomi says it will be exciting to create a new work in such an usual venue.
“I’m hugely looking forward to it; it’s going to be a fabulous opportunity to network with others, develop skills and have fun,” she said. “River City Voices is the first technical choir I’ve been involved in and it is just so innovative with a diverse group of people, some trained and others who just want to sing.”
