Siblings return as ‘Spectacular’ stars

WHILE their classmates have been winding down over the holidays, Tana and Georgia Laga’aia have been picking up the pace.

After success through rigorous auditions, the siblings were chosen to return as featured performers in this year’s Schools Spectacular.
Tana and Georgia spent the first week of the October school holidays immersed in intensive rehearsals at the Department of Education’s Arts Unit in Lewisham.
“This is an exciting time for every featured artist,” Schools Spectacular Creative Director Sonja Sjolander said.
“From here on the momentum of preparation really gathers pace as we build to our four performances on Friday and Saturday, November 22 and 23, at Qudos Bank Arena.”
Schools Spectacular has been a family affair for the Laga’aia siblings for a number of years.
In 2016, Tana and Georgia were joined onstage by older brother Sefa and younger sister Katie as well as their father – well-known Aussie stage and screen star Jay Laga’aia.
For Tana, this year has brought an additional challenge – balancing preparation for his starring role in Schools Spectacular with study for the upcoming HSC exams.
The Newtown High School of the Performing Arts student says his final time on the Schools Spectacular stage will be a triumphant “last hurrah”.
“For me, with finishing school and this my seventh year of Spec, it’s just going to be an amazing way to close out the year,” he said.
Tana and Georgia will be joined on stage by about 5,500 performers with many other Inner West students, including Sienna Kent, Damon Poppleton, Arlo Sim, Marlena Stanhope, Mia Fernandez, Benjamin Hamilton and Karl van Wel.
