Show support to fight killer

STATE MP for Bankstown, Tania Mihailuk, has encouraged everyone to drop into her office and buy some Pink Ribbon merchandise during October to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

According to Cancer Australia figures, 19,535 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2019, accounting for 29 per cent of all new cancer cases in Australian women.
While the chance of surviving at least five years has risen from 74 per cent to 90.8 per cent over the past 15 years, the rate of diagnosis is increasing.
Breast cancer accounts for 14 per cent of all cancer deaths in Australian women, making it the second leading cause of Australian female cancer deaths after lung cancer, prompting Ms Mihailuk to help raise public awareness by wearing pink during the month of October and assisting the Cancer Council’s fundraising efforts.
“Together we can show our support not only for those diagnosed with breast cancer, but the many families and loved ones who are also affected by this life-changing condition,” Ms Mihailuk said.
“Almost 80,000 people are living with breast cancer, which remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Australian women.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an important opportunity to bring this major heath issue to light.
“If anyone would like to ‘go pink’ for this great cause, please feel welcome to stop by my electorate office at 9A Greenfield Parade, Bankstown and pick up some Pink Ribbon merchandise.”
