AN man who allegedly attempted to kill police who were responding to a domestic violence-related incident, was shot and killed by an officer in Yagoona last Sunday morning.

Bankstown Police were called to a home in William Street about 8.50am and on arrival, were allegedly threatened by an armed man, before a Taser was deployed and the 29-year-old shot.
Police rendered first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital where he later died.
Police Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said the two officers were confronted by the man brandishing to two large knives.
Supt Smith said he tried slash and stab a female officer and when he turned his focus to the other officer, he was shot.
“They didn’t expect to be confronted by such a vicious act by someone who was trying to kill them,” Comm Smith said.
A critical incident team comprising officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.
