Short flick fest entries invited

WHAT happens when a couple of actor-puppeteers and their puppets are in lockdown with the dreaded Corona virus lurking?

With no bookings, no shows, not much of a life but with a lot of hope, they continue to work on their craft from home – who would have known their audience would be only one smartphone camera away?
Guildford actor, dancer and puppeteer, Shabnam Tavakol’s entry in this year’s Smartfone Flick Fest (SF3), ‘Punch and Judy at Home’, is one of the outstanding entries so far in the competition which is in its ninth year and closing for new entries on September 1.
With more than 40 awards and prizes on offer for adults as well as children, the competition is an opportunity to get your film career underway.
Shabnam attended a short film course and used her pandemic experience as inspiration for the film.
“We did a test run of my film, which is under five minutes, and the audience was certainly entertained,” she said.
“It was just a simple way to express how ‘stir crazy’ lockdown made us all feel, not being able to work, stuck at home and not knowing what the future held.
“Anyone with an interest in acting or film, should definitely submit an entry, it’s been a great experience.”
With finalists announced on September 15 and screenings throughout November, your film must be shot entirely on a smartphone or tablet, or a 360 camera for SF360 from three to 40 minutes depending on the category.
