“There was so many champions among the contenders that I was shocked to win but it was such a nice surprise,” he said.
At just 20 years of age, Timothy claimed silver and bronze medals at his second Paralympic games in Tokyo last year.
Winning his most recent medals in the pool for the 200m Individual Medley, the 100m backstroke and the Medley Relay, he works incredibly hard to stay at the top of his sport.
“I do nine sessions in the pool and two to three gym sessions a week,” he said, explaining that he was born a right leg below knee amputee and missing two fingers on his right hand.
He next has his sights set on the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom in July and the World Paralympic Championships in Kobe, Japan, in August.
“I am very happy to win this award out of an amazing line-up of young Paralympians and will keep trying to make my country proud,” he said.
