Shake off Covid cobwebs and step out at easy class to help mind, body

RUNNING Covid-safe dance classes since September, Dance Fit Sydney owner and Padstow resident Tracie Murray says some of her students have been enjoying her classes for over 20 years.

Teaching all ages including seniors only classes, she got involved when the dance fitness craze arrived in the early 90s.
Offering all low impact classes, Tracie says the moves are fun but easy to follow and execute.
“We do salsa, rhumba and cha cha moves, it’s a bit like zumba,” she said.
“You don’t need any experience and I try to customise my classes to suit the participants. For example, I play hits from the 50s and 60s for my senior classes and they love it.
“When we started back in September after a 10-month break due to Covid, everyone was so relieved but because some of the classes were held in clubs and they weren’t offering facilities, I had to find other venues so classes are now held at Padstow Church Hall (corner Cahors and Arab roads), Morris Iemma Sports Centre and Riverwood Community Centre in Riverwood.”
Tracie says teaching nine classes a week keeps her busy and she is lucky to have assistance from her dancer mother Sylvia for senior beginners.
“A lot of my students have gotten to know each other and some make the most of their day out, enjoying a coffee or lunch together afterwards,” she said.
The seniors class costs $5 an hour, open class is $10 and the line dancing class for two hours is $12.
