Seven-year-olds to get wish after eloquent plea

BANKSTOWN South Infants schoolboys Ethan Chowdury (holding letter) and Philip Tran have taken their case for new handball courts straight to the top, penning their request as formally as they could to Relieving Principal Leyla Derbas.

Not only did they state in the letter that “playing handball on the path to the canteen was boring [as they had nowhere else to play]” but also adding “students won’t get hurt playing handball because you just need to bounce the ball”.
So impressed was Mrs Derbas, that she has agreed to their request, even taking them on site-finding mission and deciding on a space for the courts which are expected to be completed next term.
“These two Year 2 authors composed such a convincing letter to have handball courts painted on our new asphalt,” she said.
“They used the correct structure and literary devices to construct their persuasive letter, which they have been doing in class, convincing me that this is an important issue for our students.
“It was lovely to see these two seven-year-olds put what they are learning in the classroom into purposeful practice; it was very hard to argue against and we are very proud of them.”
