SES volunteers make most of celebration for WOW Day

WEAR Orange Wednesday – better known as WOW Day and held annually during National Volunteer Week (May 20-26), was a chance to shine a light on the thousands of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who help the community in their darkest hours.

As a way to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers at Holroyd SES and Auburn SES, the council provided two ‘barbecue’ hampers which about 45 members from each unit enjoyed last Wednesday night.
Central Cluster Local Commander Kathy Garancsi said the hampers were very generous and were each accompanied by a letter of thanks from Mayor Lisa Lake.
“It was a different way of marking WOW Day this year and was greatly appreciated by all of our volunteers,” Kathy said.
“In the letter the Mayor said thanks for going above and beyond when we need you the most.
“We don’t volunteer our efforts in rain, hail or snow for any recognition but it’s always nice to receive thanks.”
