Volunteers from the State Emergency Service (SES) Auburn Unit were kept busy and spokesperson Peta Clarke said they had received 41 calls for assistance, mostly for leaking roofs or localised flooding with a handful of fallen trees, as well as sending volunteers to help out after a tornado passed through Chester Hill resulting in about 100 calls for help.
“Two teams attended to a flood rescue on Woodville Road under the railway bridge on Saturday afternoon,” she said.
“We also monitored flooding on Hill Road in the Wentworth Point area and localised flooding on Victoria Street East in Lidcombe.”
Emergency help in floods and storms is available from the NSW SES on 132 500, although Ms Clarke asked people to please be patient as they are dealing with high call volumes, and she said in life-threatening emergencies, call 000 (Triple Zero) immediately.
“If you are caught in rising floodwater, seek refuge in the highest possible and sturdiest place and then call Triple Zero. This is a life-threatening situation,” she said.
“We also remind everyone to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater – if it’s flooded forget it.”
