Services to pay respect to our brave

HUNDREDS are expected to attend services next week to mark ANZAC Remembrance and ANZAC Day on Tuesday.

ANZAC Day is a time for all Australians to recognise the more than 1.5 million service men and women who have served our country in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations, and remember the over 103,000 Australians who sacrificed their lives in our country’s name.
• Cumberland Sub-branch, which incorporates the Auburn, Granville and Strathfield chapters, will host a Community ANZAC Commemoration service at Auburn Hospital from 10am on Monday, April 24, followed by the Dawn Service the next day on Tuesday, April 25, at Memorial Park in Granville, from 6am followed by a Sub-branch members’ breakfast at Granville Diggers RSL and then a wreath-laying service at Auburn Memorial at 8am.
They will also conduct a service from 10am at Davey Square Memorial in Homebush as well as a range of talks and commemorations at schools and aged care homes in the lead up to and following ANZAC Day.
• Merrylands Sub-branch is marking the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s ‘turning point’ with an ANZAC Day march starting on Miller Street at 5.15am and continuing to Charles Mance Reserve in Newman Street, Merrylands, followed by a free breakfast for service attendees at Merrylands RSL and Two-Up in the Swan Room at the club from 1-4pm.
• Lidcombe Sub-branch will host a Remembrance Service at Remembrance Park in Lidcombe from 11am on Sunday, April 23, to be followed by a free lunch for attendees at Dooleys Regents Park. Their Dawn Service will be held on ANZAC Day on Tuesday, April 25, in Remembrance Park at 5am followed by breakfast at Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club where all attendees are welcome.
