Served in USA Air Force in WW2 before migrating here

GILLAWARNA Aged Care Georges Hall resident Maxwell Wheeler has celebrated his 100th birthday with daughter Carolyn, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two brothers in attendance.

Born in Connecticut in the USA on December 17, 1923, his family settled in New Zealand when he was very young.
He had two sisters and three brothers and returned to the USA to serve in the Air Force during World War 2 in the Pacific and was later stationed in England where he met his wife Elizabeth.
After 20 years in the USAF, he moved to Sydney and settled in Wiley Park until 2019 when he moved to aged care at Chester Hill before Georges Hall in 2020.
Carolyn said he enjoyed the wonderful birthday celebration with all of his family present.
“He loves watching the cricket, rugby league and union as well as a conquering word puzzles,” she said.
“He says his secret to longevity is healthy eating and trying not to worry.”
