The photo should include the contestant and the shop owner or a staff member and emailed to competitions@weeklytimes.com.au
The competition is to promote the City of Ryde’s “Shop Local, Love Your Community” campaign and photographs should be taken at local shops, restaurants and cafes within the City Of Ryde.
City of Ryde councillors Bernard Purcell and Simon Zhou and Eastwood’s popular Hugh Lee (pictured above and below) have so far assisted with promoting the campaign and encourage shoppers to send in their photographs, with the winning photographs published in an upcoming edition.
“I am delighted to be able to promote the shop local campaign led by the City of Ryde and The Weekly Times,” Clr Purcell said.
“It is a terrific initiative to remind people that it means so much more when we shop locally.”
He said the Ryde community is stronger when local people support it.
“Local business is there for you, around the corner or up the street.
“We should cherish our local businesses and use them as much as we can and I’d much prefer our shopping dollars spent locally than going interstate or overseas.”
The campaign highlights the benefits of Convenience and Savings, Personal Service, Better Variety, Supportive Communities and Job Creation.
Mayor Jerome Laxale said the campaign began in West Ryde and aims to get the economy on the road to recovery.
“Shop Local will highlight our terrific local businesses at a time when they need it the most,” he said.
“By shopping local, not only will you be supporting local businesses and creating jobs, but also purchasing high-quality goods and services.”
He said the campaign is one of many initiatives to support local business during the pandemic.
