Seeking volunteers who speak Persian or Arabic

‘REWARDING’, ‘satisfying’ and ‘making a difference’ are just some of the reasons Lyndon Mitchell gives when asked why he volunteers.

A longtime volunteer with IRT – one of Australia’s largest community-owned providers of retirement villages, aged care and home care which manages Berala Care Centre, Lyndon is needed a couple of times a week to take residents out for shopping trips, appointments and lunches.
“I love it,” he said of his volunteering.
“It keeps me busy and I get plenty of days off.”
Lyndon says he has gotten to know a lot of people through his volunteer work.
“People are so grateful,” he said.
“You don’t have to sit at home. I’ve even started up a men’s group with some of the residents just to keep them busy and give them something to look forward to.”
He says he would definitely recommend volunteering to others.
“You get as much out of it as they do,” he said.
IRT is recruiting volunteers who speak Farsi/Persian or Arabic to visit residents at Berala.
With training provided and up to five introductory volunteer buddy sessions, you will need to be comfortable socialising with residents living with dementia.
