See world’s top javelin throwers

SOME of the world’s best javelin throwers will line-up against each at Wyatt Park Auburn for The Wayne Crandell Memorial Athletics festival later this month.

The women’s world number three Javelin competitor Mackenzie Little and Australian record holder and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Kathryn Mitchell will be just two of the elite athletes taking part. Both will be competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Wests Track and Field Club has organised the “high velocity throws event” which will include a number of 60m races, with some of the club’s top sprinters also taking part.
You can catch all the action from 11am on Sunday, March 24, at the Don Brodie Athletics Centre.
The festival was named in honour of the late Wayne Crandell who for more than two decades, was a significant contributor to the sport as a coach and administrator, in particular, encouraging the youth.
He assisted hundreds of athletes as a prominent coach with Wests, and also competed himself as a Masters athlete.
