Second Grade saves day with victory

BANKSTOWN Sports Women’s Cricket Club’s First Grade were unlucky with an afternoon rain which meant their Round 12 clash against Gordon was abandoned after 3 overs.
However Second Grade had a terrific win over second-placed Gordon.

Losing the toss and fielding first, Bankstown couldn’t have got off to a better start with Gordon 4/18 off five overs thanks to openers Madison Rutherford 3/10 and Ava Blackburn 1/11 doing all the damage.
Gordon put together a partnership before Cynthia Coghlan 4/9 came on to rip through the lower order. Gordon were all out for 89.
In reply, BSWCC’s Cynthia Coghlan 23, Alice Whelan 24 not out and Aleisha Rutherford 21 not out, saw them home in the 17th over 3 wickets down.
Third Grade played against Sydney in theit first game back after Christmas.
After loosing a wicket early in the innings, Claire Jones went on to top score for Bankstown retiring on 31 not out, supported by Scotia McKerron on 21 runs. Bankstown scored 78 runs of their 20 overs.
Taking to the field, Bankstown put in a good effort.
Steph Kelly took the first wicket with bowling figures of 1 wicket for 11 runs off of 3 overs.
Unfortunately Bankstown were unable to convert their chances into more wickets.
Sydney went on to win the game, scoring 79 runs off 15 overs.
