The 21-year-old was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Hume Highway and Muir Street, Chullora, about 8pm. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition with fractures to the right collarbone and wrist.
Police were told a grey Toyota Aurion sedan was travelling south along the Hume Highway when it allegedly proceeded through a red traffic control light and struck the man who was crossing the roadway. The vehicle failed to stop and was seen to turn east onto Northcote Road.
Police located the car in Rosalie Crescent, Greenacre, about 7.30pm the following day and it was seized for forensic examination.
Strike Force Ophir has been established to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and anyone who has information about the crash or dashcam footage of either the incident or where the vehicle was located is urged to contact the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
