Schools invite to recycle, win prizes

WITH $20,000 worth of classroom stationery prizes up for grabs, primary schools are being invited to take part in a national challenge to come up with innovative ways of re-using plastic bottles.

The competition, ‘Circular Champions’, is part of the nationwide Aussie of the Month Award – a student recognition program that rewards personal endeavour, teamwork and contribution to community – and is the younger sibling to the prestigious Australian of the Year Awards.
Aussie of the Month Ambassador, Local Hero 2023 and founder of Clyde-based charity Turbans 4 Australia, Amar Singh said he was passionate about encouraging children to support a waste-free society.
“Our charity is based on a circular economy where we collect waste or seconds from wholesale and retail outlets and reuse to benefit others,” he said.
“Everyone should be involved in recycling and this competition is a great way for school children to demonstrate the important values of mateship, inclusion and community by showing how they can work together to get creative with plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill.
“I am very much looking forward to seeing the entries either re-purposed or turned into art.
“It’s important to remember it’s the little things that can go a long way to help the planet.”
Circular Champions opens this week and closes on September 20. To enter, schools can register at aussieofthemonth.org.au
