On a mission to grow their hair as long as possible, the Tower Street Public School Year 6 friends – Joshua Allerton, Jake Casey and Edvin Muratagic – gave themselves a year to grow their hair and raise sponsorship funds ahead of having it shaved off as part of the World’s Greatest Shave on March 19.
Joshua’s Mum Beth said he got the idea after questioning why her friend was taking part in a previous fundraiser and cutting her hair.
“When my friend explained it was to create awareness and help raise money to research cures for leukaemia and other blood cancers, Joshua asked ‘do kids get that too?’ and when we said that they did, he was adamant that he wanted to help,” she said.
“He even got two of his friends involved and they have been encouraging each other; it’s such a beautiful thing for them to be doing and we are extremely proud of them.
“Joshua’s hair is certainly getting raggedy but we have just over a month to go and he is getting very excited especially since he has raised $755 and is hoping to raise more to donate to the Kids with Cancer Founation.”
