School to cheer on ex student and Olympic high jumper Starc

JOINING in with thousands of schools from around the nation, Lidcombe Public School has celebrated ‘Green and Gold Day’ to mark the Paris Olympics and cheer on former student and Olympic high jumper Brandon Starc.

Fans can catch Starc in the high jump qualification round on Wednesday, August 7, from 6.05pm, with the finals from 3pm on Sunday, August 11.
With titles at the Diamond League, the Commonwealth Games and top-eight finishes at the Olympics and the World Championships, Starc is one of Australia’s most consistent athletes.
He made his Olympic debut in Rio 2016 and takes to the Olympic stage for a third consecutive time in Paris.
He came 15th in Rio and missed out on a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a fifth-placed finish.
He is also a four-time Australian champion and the Australian national record holder in the men’s high jump.
Wearing green and gold colours to pay tribute to all of Australia’s Olympians, the Lidcombe Public students feasted on over 200 cheese toasties at the breakfast event and enjoyed fun activities throughout the day.
“All the children were so excited, throwing their support behind Brandon and hoping to be like their hero one day,” school administration officer Linda Choi said.
“We couldn’t cook the toasties fast enough and we’re already planning how to make our next event even bigger and better, especially if Brandon comes back with a medal.”
