Reflecting on how far they had come since their own school days, the teachers’ goals remain the same and that is to inspire students everyday.
Principal Sonia Tannous said when people ask her what she does for a living, she proudly replies, ‘I am a teacher’, because she believes there is no more nobler a profession.
“It’s a real gift to be responsible for educating the next generation so they can leave the world in a better place,” she said.
Describing teaching as a well-balanced career for lots of different personalities, she says being a teacher allows you to indulge yourself in subject areas that you feel passionate about, whether that be languages, the humanities, sciences, maths, sports and more.
She says no two days are the same and pathways to leadership and travel opportunities are extensive, with many opting to leave their city communities and enjoy a life teaching in regional schools.
“When the teacher is passionate you can tell at once because the whole classroom is alive,” she said.
“If you want to make a difference in the world, there is no better place to start than at the chalkface, become a teacher, it’s up there with the most fantastic careers you can have.”
