School invites ex staff, pupils to mark 100th

DIERDRE Ko had such wonderful memories of attending Berala Public School as a student, that she didn’t hesitate when there was an opportunity to come back as a teacher.

She performed in the School Spectacular dance group at the Opera House and a range of other special events and says it is interesting now to have the perspective of being a teacher and seeing all the behind-the-scenes work that’s done to organise activities with most still on offer and more besides at the school.
“I felt a bit awkward when I first returned, it’s my second year now, with some of the teachers’ faces very familiar and I was like ‘yes, I’m back’,” Dierdre said.
“The Kindergarten teacher is still the same and my old Year 5 teacher was my teacher supervisor in my first year; it took a while to call them by their first name.”
She said she was thrilled to be working back in such a wonderful caring yet academic-focused school community, especially this year with Berala Public celebrating its 100th and couldn’t wait for the centenary dinner on Tuesday, September 3.
“I hope to see all the former students and other teachers who have left, it’s going to be a wonderful reunion celebration,” she said.
Relieving Principal Robyn White said the occasion not only marked a century of educational excellence but also commemorated the profound impact the school has had on generations of students, parents and the broader community.
“Together, we will celebrate a century of academic achievements, lifelong friendships and cherished memories, while also setting our sights on an even brighter future,” she said.
As well as the centenary dinner, the school will host a week-long celebration for students with a host of fun days, special assemblies and activities.
