School gets ‘crazy’ to help poor

IT’S only been five weeks but already the ‘Friday Fundraisers’ at St Mel’s Catholic Primary School Campsie have raised over $1,000.

Principal Liz Pisano says the school fundraises every year as part of Project Compassion for Lent in the lead up to Easter.
“The funds are then given to our parish priest or donated directly to Caritas Australia to help families living in poverty,” Ms Pisano said.
“We’ve had to get a bit more creative this year since there is less parental involvement, including food preparation, over Covid concerns.
“So our cupcake days and sausage sizzles have been replaced with crazy hair days, crazy sock days, dress as a movie star days or dress as what you want to be when you grow up days.”
Ms Pisano said the children came dressed in green and orange on Friday in honour of St Patrick’s Day and Harmony Day.
“All of our fundraising days are initiated by the kids and it’s so lovely to see how keen they are to raise money to help others,” she said.
St Mels is hosting Kindergarten tours at the school in Duke Street, Campsie, tomorrow, Thursday, March 25, at 8am and 3.30pm.
Prospective parents and carers can book a tour by going to the events section on the school’s Facebook page or call the office on 9789 3800.
