School Citizenship Awards 2020

FUTURE prime ministers and community leaders could be among the 20 outstanding primary school students who have been recognised in this year’s Auburn Review School Citizenship Awards.

Ayoub Aitaider
LIDCOMBE PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Ayoub is a very enthusiastic and committed member of Lidcombe Public School, ensuring he devotes his full attention and effort into everything that he does. • He is committed to his academic studies, however what truly makes Ayoub stand out from the rest, is his ability to go above and beyond to make others feel comfortable, safe and relaxed. 
• With all the unexpected obstacles of 2020, he has taken it upon himself to be an excellent friend to others. He is a good listener, willing to share his time and has become someone you can always rely on.
• Ayoub is a model school citizen who possesses an understanding and patient nature which makes him a valuable peer to many students, no matter their age.
• He also represents his school with pride, participating successfully in the PSSA soccer and basketball teams. He competes with enthusiasm, commitment and good sportsmanship. Ayoub was recognized for this and voted house captain for Woomera in 2020. 


Arabella Roko
SYDNEY ADVENTIST SCHOOL AUBURN

• Arabella is a valued member of Sydney Adventist School Auburn since Prep and is now in Year 5. • She has blossomed into a kind, caring, strong and confident young lady. She is reliable and trustworthy and is a fantastic role model; not only towards her classroom peers but also towards the younger students in the school whom she offers her friendship and assistance to whenever needed.
• Arabella is considerate and thoughtful of others. She helps the teacher in the classroom and also puts a great deal of effort into her class work, even when she finds a task difficult.
• Arabella strives to achieve her best and is persistent in trying to present her work to the highest standard possible.
• Arabella has been raised in a Christian home and has been involved in a variety of community outreach programs with her Adventurers and Pathfinder clubs.


Ali Karimi
AUBURN PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Ali is an outstanding Year 6 student, who is recognised by his positive outlook towards all aspects of school life.
• At all times, Ali maintains respectful behaviour towards peers and teachers and he is a mature and excellent role model to all students. • With leadership skills, Ali capably communicates with his peers and is always prepared to assist those who require his support. He has a respectful and caring nature and he shows this through all of his daily interactions with students, school staff and the wider community.
• Ali demonstrates an exceptional commitment towards his schoolwork and challenges himself to improve his understandings and skills. He has shown significant improvement in all Key Learning Areas this year through his hard work, persistence and determination to succeed.


Daniel Makisi
AUBURN NORTH PUBLIC SCHOOL

Daniel is a motivated and caring student who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to all areas of learning and who continuously strives to exceed his full potential academically, emotionally, socially, physically and technologically.
• He is a kind and generous friend to all students and is always willing to assist his teachers and peers. • He consistently demonstrates his school values of respect, responsibility, friendship, fairness, kindness and honesty.
• As a school prefect, Daniel has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and a strong sense of citizenship, especially when working with peers. He has been a valued member of the school dance group.
• Daniel loves learning and actively encourages his peers to participate in all classroom and extra-curricular opportunities.


Mark Sorojevic
HOLY FAMILY PRIMARY SCHOOL GRANVILLE EAST

• Sporting Superstar of Holy Family East Granville, Mark has represented the school in a wide variety of sporting events demonstrating his remarkable physical aptitude. He has successfully participated in the school Swimming Carnival then progressed to the Zone Carnival earlier this year.
• Out of the water and onto the field, Mark demonstrates a range of skills and talent as he participates in all track and field events at the school Athletics Carnival each year.
• Mark has been crowned Age Champion for three consecutive years for Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming. He is also a team player representing the school in different Gala Days such as cricket, touch football and soccer.
• He is involved in soccer & Little Athletics outside of school. Mark consistently displays true sportsmanship, grit and determination.


Melissa Duong
ST JOHN’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL AUBURN

• Melissa is a diligent student who excels in her studies, engages in all classroom activities and supports her peers with their learning outside of school hours.
• She is an excellent model of the St John’s values and expectations and participates in ‘Mini Vinnies’ and the ‘Pope Francis Award’ initiatives which strive for social justice within the school and Auburn community.
• Melissa has volunteered as a Library Monitor for the past two years.
• Her empathy and initiative allows her to live out her favorite quote from St Mary Mackillop “never see a need without doing something about it.”


Hamza Khan
GRANVILLE SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Hamza exhibits a strong sense of citizenship to his school community, consistently demonstrating values of respect, responsibility, inclusion, fairness, kindness and integrity.
• He is an enthusiastic and caring student who thrives when challenged, and excels in numeracy.
• Hamza is an active and motivated member of the school community and diligently represents the school in PSSA, Numeracy Buddies, STEM and as a Student Council Representative.
•He has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, especially when working with younger students in our peer buddy programs within his school.


Sarah Dang
ST PETER CHANEL CATHOLIC PRIMARY REGENTS PARK

• Sarah Dang is a worthy recipient of the 2020 Citizenship Award at Saint Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School, Regents Park. Throughout her seven years at the school, Sarah has participated in the school’s CASPA performance, Kinder Buddy program, various sporting gala days, social events and fundraising activities.
• She has been an integral part of the student team raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research in honor of a parent and staff member who passed away from this terrible disease.
• Sarah is a kind, genuine, supportive and good-natured friend.  She has a fair, respectful and responsible nature and as a senior student has been a role model to others in her role as House Captain.
• She is an active member of her parish and school community with a special passion for social justice and outreach.
• Over the years, Sarah has always tried to be a good role model and approaches all areas of life with enthusiasm and dedication. Already she has achieved many goals and she looks forward to the next stage of her life in High School.


Maryam Islam
AMITY COLLEGE AUBURN

• Maryam Islam is an invaluable student of Amity College, who not only demonstrates her care and compassion on a daily basis. She is also very respectful to all teachers and students.
• Always willing to give a helping hand, she has grown in confidence, making herself available at all times to younger students and teachers with a welcoming smile.
• Maryam encapsulates her school values and its motto of inspiring, exploring and achieving not only for herself, but as a studious, exemplary role model and school leader.
• Her dedication to her role has shown her active in many facets, including fundraising and visiting members of the community to lift spirits, including frontline workers during this tumultuous year.
• Maryam’s strive for social justice and strength of values is to be commended, as such she is a deserving Citizen of the Year for 2020. 


Ahmed Saadieh
GRANVILLE BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

• Ahmed is a natural leader, he continuously demonstrates responsibility and provides service to the school and the wider community. He encourages his peers to make better choices and enriches the lives of those around him.
• His nurturing qualities are appreciated most when a new student joins Granville Boys’ High School, he devotes time to ensure the student feels comfortable and welcomed within the school.  
• Ahmed has participated and represented the school in various events and programs including ‘Together for Humanity’, ‘Aspire’, debating and grade sports.
• Ahmed possesses all the qualities of a distinguished citizen and is truly deserving of this citizenship award.


Layla Dandan
GRANVILLE EAST PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Layla is a Year 6 student and a Prefect at Granville East Public School. She is always willing to support and help other students, take on leadership opportunities and represent her school in any way she can.
• She leads her school assembly on a regular basis and shows positive attributes a leader demonstrates.
• She always shows initiative and resourcefulness and takes a lot of pride in the work she does around the school and with other students.
• Layla perseveres when challenged and pushes herself to work to the best of her ability, always demonstrating high levels of confidence.
• She is involved in a range of school programs such as Community Warriors, SRC and PSSA (Oz tag and AFL) and is highly motivated to make a difference to her school community.


Emaan Ali 
AUBURN WEST PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Emaan has been a member of Auburn West public school community since Kindergarten and has consistently been recognised for her positive behaviour and attitude towards learning.
• She is a well-respected student amongst her peers and will actively seek out ways to assist those in need.
• Emaan consistently demonstrates school values and is an exemplary model student. She shows maturity beyond her years and is a reflective student who is always striving to be the best she can be.
• Over the years at Auburn West Public School, Emaan has been a proactive member in the SRC committee, is a school Play Leader, Year 6 T-Shirt committee member and many other school wide programs.


Rebekah Lee
REGENTS PARK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

• Rebekah is the School Captain at Regents Park Christian School where she is respected for her leadership capabilities.
• She is involved in school chapel services as part of the music team, in planning and organisation and through speaking.
• Rebekah has excelled in Mathematics, completing the HSC Extension 1 and 2 courses in year 11 and sitting the corresponding HSC exams.
• She is a vocal student advocate who pushes boundaries and challenges the norm. She is truly a citizen of the future.


Anna Kolka
REGENTS PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL

• Anna is an empathic and caring student who always puts others needs before her own. She is respectful to all and is always willing to help other students and staff.
• She has a very positive attitude towards learning and strives to achieve the best outcome in all her learning through her perserverance.
• She has played an integral role in supporting students in learning tasks and ensured all students feel valued and thrive at school.
• Anna is an outstanding role model who is well respected by her peers, the teaching staff and the wider school community. 
• She actively participates in planning, supporting and delivering school events and initiatives, including such things as volunteering her time to be a student tutor in homework club.children to share their ideas, needs, wants and concerns.


Rodah Elemam
AUBURN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

• Rodah is an outstanding student who has continuously persevered throughout the year of 2020 to extend herself within her commitment to learning, school spirit and personal excellence.
• She is an accelerated chemistry student who was awarded the 2020 DUX award of Year 10 and consistently participates in extra-curricular activities such as interschool debating and netball.
• Recently Rodah was elected as Vice-Captain of Auburn Girls High School for the 2020-2021 school year.
• She volunteers at the AGHS Homework Club, tutoring students from Year 7 to 10 with a variety of subjects including maths and science. • She has represented the school as the 2020 Youth Curator for the Sydney Writers’ Festival, helping to program the ‘All Day YA event’. She was also a participant in the 2020 Youth Parliament Representative of Auburn for the PCYC Youth Parliament, which aims to bring government attention to issues afflicting young people within society.


Zoe Luong
ST. JOACHIM’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL – LIDCOMBE

• Zoe is a kind and caring student who demonstrates compassion for others and an attitude of service in leadership. Her quiet, determined manner and enthusiasm for everything she does is a model for all.
• She supports the school community, always addressing needs with a minimum of fuss. She is a reliable colour house leader, assisting with choir and helping in the library.
• Zoe is a mature and calm student. She applies herself to her study and has participated in the Pope Francis Award program.
• She exhibits a positive outlook in all aspects of school life. She is always courteous and respectful student and a supportive mentor.
• From swimming to dance lessons, Zoe always tries her best. She models excellence in her behaviour, cooperation and leadership.


Anau Malafu
GRANVILLE SOUTH CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS HIGH SCHOOL

• Anau is an exceptional student who has served as a valued school leader within the Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School community. 
• As 2020 School Captain, Anau performed her duties as part of the Student Representative Council to an outstanding level.
• She was a diligent learner who dedicated herself to her studies. Anau was a member of the Music Ensemble, where she showcased her musical talents at school functions. Her warmth, personality, and talent was evident on stage. 
• Anau has served as a role model whose positive influence has made a lasting impression on staff and students alike.


Berke Ilter
AL-FAISAL COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

• Berke is a committed and dedicated student who succeeded to spread positivity through his volunteer work helping his peers and being an active person within the community.
• During Ramadan, he volunteered to help out at Gallipoli Mosque in providing meals, as well as a safe place, for people to break their fasts.

• He participated in the annual RUA workshop which encouraged dialogue between students of different faiths to build respect and understanding of the many faiths that make up the Australian Community.
• Berke has learned high levels of respect from both teachers and students for his constant commitment towards school and local community.
• He was also successfully involved in the Advanced Spring Volleyball Camp, also in Junior Development Programme in Basketball as well as in Swimming Programme.


Nazir Abu Zalaf
AL-FAISAL COLLEGE PRIMARY

• Nazir has been a student of Al-Faisal College since the beginning of 2019. Over this time, he has demonstrated to be a most capable student.
• He is punctual, eager to learn, extremely interested, asks questions, attentive, well-mannered and has interacted well with members of the school community. He has recorded achievements on the personal, academic, and social levels.
• Nazir has demonstrated a warm, caring, and empathic attitude towards other school students and to the wider community in general.
• His involvement within community events has allowed him to be an excellent candidate for the Citizenship Award.
