According to Belmore’s Australian Hot Water franchisee David Linke, a replacement hot water system has a short-term cost but you start saving money immediately on your energy bill.
“In general, the technology of hot water systems develops quite quickly, so 10 years down the track you are looking at a hot water system that’s noticeably more efficient than what your old system was when you first bought it,” he said.
“The reason for this is that these storage tanks’ water colour either turns rusty and the tank starts to leak, or it could lose the insulation efficiency, meaning more energy is being used to keep the water hot.”
David said a family’s hot water needs come down to how many of you there are, whether you all live on a similar schedule (all showering before going to work and school), and how many appliances you use.
