Santa cruising in to spread cheer

TEMPORARILY trading in his reindeer for a Cadillac, Santa will be cruising around the City of Canterbury Bankstown in the lead up to Christmas.

Launching a ‘bonanza of festive activities’, Mayor Khal Asfour assured residents that despite not being unable to hold large-scale events, the spirit of Christmas will “truly be felt” this year.
“Using the money that is normally spent on events, like our Carols at Wiley Park, we’re spreading the festive cheer further around the city than we’ve ever been able to do before,” he said.
Throughout the month, Christmas elves and their friends will make surprise visits to town centres, with Christmas trees lighting up seven town centres along with an augmented reality experience at each location.
Residents can follow a new Canterbury-Bankstown Christmas Lights Trail, with Christmas colours also lighting up the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre each night, or do an online Christmas craft workshop.
The council will also assist Padstow Rotary Club to livestream their carols event.
“Although we cannot all come together to sing carols or light the Christmas trees, you can all still join us online,” Cr Asfour said.
“It is also a great time to support our local businesses. Life has been tough for all of us through this pandemic, so why not spread some Christmas joy and visit your local eatery or buy presents from one of our many local businesses.”
