The rising cost of living, interest rate and rental price hikes has meant that more people have been turning to The Salvation Army for support, making this year’s Christmas Appeal vitally important. The Salvation Army’s Major Robyn Black said that last Christmas, Auburn Salvos had over 700 calls for assistance, including from families, couples and individuals.
“It was my first year at Auburn and I was totally gobsmacked,” she said.
“I’d never seen anything like it before and the need has only increased this year so we are imploring everyone to make a donation, no matter how big or small, to help those who cannot afford Christmas this year.”
There are many ways that you can help, including volunteering, donating products such as gifts and food or offering a financial donation.
Last Christmas, thanks to the generosity of the public, The Salvation Army nationally distributed tens of thousands of food hampers, over 250,000 gifts and toys to families who would otherwise have gone without, provided over 132,000 meals and provided more than 66,000 beds to those in need of accommodation during the festive season.
To donate or if you need support from The Salvos, visit salvationarmy.org.au or call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58).
Donations can also be made at any Salvos Store, including Auburn at 166-170 S Parade, Auburn, or call 9646 3767.
