Saints FC revel in big winter on top

WITH player numbers booming by 100 per cent this year compared with 2022, Regents Park Saints, formally known as St Johns Soccer Club, has a long history in the Granville District Soccer Football Association.

Formed in 1959, it carried that name up until 2010 before changing in 2011 to Regents Park Saints Football Club.
This year also saw the appointment of the club’s first technical director Ernesto Meduri who formed an affiliation with Empoli Training Academy to develop the younger players.
“Our mini teams ages 6-11 have had successful seasons with both the Under 6s and 8s having two teams in the age group,” Registrar Victor Zaurrini said.
“Our Under 12, 13 and 15 sides have also enjoyed a strong season, with all three teams well positioned for the finals.”
Victor says special mention also goes to the undefeated Under 13s division 1 team, who are sitting at the top of the ladder scoring an amazing 80 goals so far this season.
“Our under 13s player, coach, game leader and committee member Jacob Eyers, 12, was even selected as the winner of the Junior Community Award category at the Cumberland Council Champions Award ceremony in June,” he said.
“Our senior teams are well positioned, with All Age men also sitting in first place.
“Our All-age ladies are the first ever team and can boast that one of its players, Abuk Ngor, has been selected to play NPL after being scouted by former Matilda Catherine Cannuli; this doesn’t happen often in grassroots clubs.
“Our two X League teams are an addition to the club this season too and going strong.”
