This followed the 65-year-old teacher pulling off the amazing feat of running 256km in 48 hours at the Sri Chinmoy Track Festival in Canberra in March.
He is fast closing in on the World Number 1 Ranking as well as for the longest span of having completed 100 Miles in a race.
His first was way back in Easter 1980 at age 22; to do that regularly over a 41-year span is almost unfathomable.
Anyce has won the Australian 24 Hours, as well as the Australian 100 Miles three times, the NSW 24 Hours twice, the NSW 12 Hours twice and the NSW 50 Miles twice.
As well, he became the 65th person to walk 100 Miles (160 km) in a day on Australian soil.
Inspired by long distance runner Cliff Young, Anyce says he will keep running until he is 82 and has been collecting wins for 62 years, which will give him a good tilt at being named World Number 1 in case he hasn’t already achieved that by then.
One of 10 siblings along with brother Daryl who is Revesby Workers’ Club president, Anyce credits supportive family and friends for his success.
“Anyone in Canterbury Bankstown can achieve anything, given our magnificent world class facilities and family friendly environment,” he said.
“I know every blade of grass at Lake Gillawarna; it’s the perfect place to run and meet likeminded people, we’re very lucky here.”
Runs way to fifth in world rank
PANANIA’S very own Forrest Gump, long distance athlete Anyce Melham is now ranked fifth in the world after running 217km in the Southern Sydney Ultra.
