“We have just had the refurbishment completed on our Field Guns outside of the club and they look amazing,” he said.
“We’ve also just registered the garden between the guns and the club as an official memorial site and we’re hoping to exceed last year’s number of attendees which was about 100.”
Bankstown RSL Sub Branch President Terry Corcoran is also hoping to get a good turnout.
“We owe our soldiers an enormous debt of gratitude; this great land has grown up through their blood, sweat and sacrifice and put us in a position where we can welcome as many less fortunate as possible from around the world,” he said.
“Remembrance Day is right up there with ANZAC Day and we treat it with the same reverence.
“You can wear Rosemary for remembrance, a red poppy to signify the blood of soldiers soaking the ground or a purple poppy, as I will be doing, to honour all the animals that served us so well, from the horses in the light brigade in WW1, to the specialist sniffer tracker dogs today.”
Remembrance Day services will be held:
• Bankstown War Memorial from 10.30am with lunch at Bankstown RSL to follow (invite only).
• Padstow War Memorial (adjacent to the station) from 10.45am with arrangements for refreshments to follow at Padstow RSL to be announced on the day.
• Chester Hill RSL cenotaph from 10.50am with a ‘ticketed’ lunch to follow at the club.
• ANZAC Mall Cenotaph in Campsie from 10.50am with refreshments to follow at Campsie RSL.
• Panania Cenotaph at the station from 10.50am with refreshments to follow at Panania Diggers.
