Rotary recognition over efforts of two committed local workers

FROM apprehending thieves to attending medical emergencies and reuniting family heirlooms, Revesby Duty Station Manager Alex Letaif has been part of the community for over eight years and has now been presented with a Padstow Rotary’s 2020 Award for Outstanding Service.

He was one of two, with City of Canterbury Bankstown Events and Community Experience Officer, Richard Howard, receiving Padstow Rotary’s 2020 Pride of Workmanship Award.
East Hills MP Wendy Lindsay, said: “I am personally grateful to Alex’s efforts; I exited the train one day without putting my prescription sunglasses back on and he managed to retrieve them for me before they travelled all over Sydney.
“Congratulations Alex on your many years of service and this well deserved recognition for your exemplary work ethic.”
When asked about some of his career highlights, Alex said: “About six months ago I earned a Sydney Trains Bravery Award after apprehending a thief fleeing a crime scene at an ATM.
“A lady had taken out $500 only to have a guy snatch it and sprint off; I stuck out my leg to trip him and yelled stop – and to my surprise, he actually stopped and I was able to return the cash.
“I love helping people. I like a challenge and want to answer every question and solve every issue for them.”
Padstow Rotary president elect Tony Luck thanked Richard for going above and beyond.
“This award was created to recognise workers who show pride in the execution of their duties and Richard is a perfect example,” he said.
“As a council’s events team member, Richard has assisted Rotary on many occasions, especially at our Australia Day barbecues and Playford Park carols.”
Mr Howard said: “Thank you very much – I’ll always be more than happy to assist wherever I can.”
