Batter cafe owner during ransacking

POLICE are appealing for help after a shop owner was bashed with a crowbar during an aggravated break and enter in Panania early Monday morning.

A PANANIA cafe owner who was woken by two robbers ransacking his shop, used a chopping board to fend off one of them when he was attacked with a crowbar. Police are searching for the pair who are believed to be responsible for several other robberies in Panania and Chester Hill.
About 3.50am, police were called to the business on Tower Street, Panania, after the 44-year-old business owner confronted two men rummaging through his shop, before he was assaulted with a crowbar. The pair fled on foot with an amount of cash in an easterly direction on Tower Street.
Police conducted extensive patrols of the area however, they couldn’t locate the pair.
The men are believed to be responsible for several other shop break-ins in Panania and Chester Hill, where valuables and cash have been stolen.
Appalled by the attack, Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly appealed to other business owners or drivers who may have been in the area at the time and saw something, to come forward.
He also appealed to business owners to “please ensure you don’t leave valuables or money in store overnight”.
One of the men was described by police as being about 170cm tall and wearing a dark jumper, light grey track pants, face covering with teeth, a black hat and a back pack. The other was about 170cm tall with black hair and wearing a red and black jumper, brown pants, a face covering, black hat and back pack. He was carrying a crowbar.
