Ride across nation for mate

COULD you ride from Perth to Sydney?
Well, that’s the challenge Senior Constable Anthony New from Inner West Police Area Command has set himself and it’s all for his colleague Pam Sutton.

Pam is a much loved member of the police family and was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer in January 2014. Five and a half years later, Pam continues to beat the odds.
To help with ongoing medical expenses, Anthony will ride over 4000km in 28 days to help raise money for Pam and awareness of this horrible disease that affects so many.
Anthony said he couldn’t think of a better cause or person to help.
“Pam is such a fighter; she’s battled liver cancer, spots on the lung and lymph node and bowel cancer,” he explained.
“She just keeps going and going and the costs of treatment are huge; that’s not to say it won’t be a massive challenge for me. I’ll be averaging 142km a day but have built in a few rest days. I’ve spent $7,500 of my own money on bike packing and camping gear but every cent raised will go to Pam.”
Pam said she was completely overwhelmed when Anthony told of his fundraiser ride plans.
“It’s so wonderful that someone can do something like this for someone else; to ride across the country for four weeks to help me,” she said.
“It’s very stressful worrying about paying for all the extra expenses associated with my treatment so having a little buffer will be a huge relief.
“I want to thank Anthony from the bottom of my heart; I still can’t believe it.”
With Anthony hitting the pedals yesterday for the start of his journey, residents are being urged to get behind this great cause.
Every donation, no matter how small or large helps. If you’d like to contribute, head to pedalforpam.gofundraise.com.au.
