Reward school program success with Public Education Award

FOUR schools have been acknowledged for outstanding achievements and contributions to public education at the 2024 Public Education Awards.

Three Secretary’s Awards for an Outstanding School Initiative were given to Bankstown Girls High School for their robotics program, Canterbury Boys High School for their enrichment program and Condell Park Public School for their learning-eco system.
The robotics program at Bankstown Girls, has for many years unlocked potential through students seeking their own pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).
Since 2019, students have entered national robotics competitions and conquered on international stages.
The enrichment program at Canterbury Boys, demonstrates the school’s commitment to nurturing academic potential, with an increase in achievements such as state-topping results and prestigious university acceptances, attributed to the program.
In a quest to improve student outcomes, Condell Park Public implemented the learning eco-system to engage parents and provide them with the tools to support students.
This approach successfully provides individualised information about each child’s progress to allow early intervention if needed.
Also awarded, was a Minister’s Award for Excellence in Teaching to Bass High School teacher Chrysanthi Diasinos.
Ms Diasinos won the award for “providing a safe learning environment with a student-centred approach”.
The passionate teacher uses her English as an Additional Language Dialect expertise to bridge the learning gaps of students.
“The existing knowledge of students learning EAL/D are often overlooked but I believe these have tremendous value in the classroom,” she said.
“This is why my students’ home languages are made visible and part of our daily activities; students feel empowered and enjoy sharing their language in class – it’s such an important part of who they are, boosting confidence and engagement.
“We are lifelong learners and must model this for our students and I am very grateful for this prestigious award.”
