Reward inspiring youth with award

DO you know an inspiring young person in the fields of academia, the arts, technology, sports or community service?

The annual Cumberland Young Champions Awards are back and the community is invited to nominate a local young achiever aged under 19 by this Saturday, June 15.
Greater Cumberland Chamber of Commerce vice president and awards initiator Brian Laui said some of the stories of accomplishment, as the nominations rolled in, were gob-smacking.
“At 16, go karting champ Darcie Batty already has over 100 races and 30 podiums under her suit; Sienna Kong, 12, is not only an accomplished dancer but a budding cello virtuoso and high academic achiever; while Delany College has nominated 17-year-old Stella Fitzpatrick for her passion in inspiring the next generation,” he said.
“We have so many talented and passionate under 19s creating positive change and sometimes just a pat on the back, a little appreciation, can make a real difference and give them the determination to go even further.”
The Awards are open to young people living in Cumberland LGA and are spread over 20 categories, with winners announced at the Gala Awards High Tea on Sunday, July 7, at Merrylands RSL.
