Reward efforts of top teachers

FOUR teachers have been awarded over their outstanding efforts while Auburn North Public School has won the Secretary’s School Achievement Award for their Collective Teacher Efficacy (teacher development) project at the 2022 NSW Minister’s and Secretary’s Awards for Excellence.

Lidcombe Public School’s Michele Morgan, Old Guildford Public’s Sharen Scerri and Fowler Road Public’s Sherlynn Hernandez have been awarded Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence.
Auburn Girls High School Principal Anna Tsoutsa has been awarded the Secretary’s Award for Excellent Service.
Saying she was thrilled to receive the honour, Mrs Tsoutsa has dedicated her career to providing opportunities for one of Sydney’s most disadvantaged communities.
Her dedicated focus on the ongoing development of a tailored literacy and numeracy curriculum for students, with more than 95 per cent coming non-English speaking grounds, has reaped great benefits with students’ NAPLAN reading band growing from 8 per cent to 18 per cent and numeracy from 16 to 23 per cent.
“We have also enjoyed continued growth in Higher School Certificate results over the last 10 years,” she said.
Teacher Sherlynn works at Fowler Road Public which is a special purpose school where all students have behavioural or mental health issues.
“I work beyond my own classroom with a variety of mainstream schools in my role as a Special Education Teacher,” she said.
“I implement personalised learning for the individual needs of students, and incorporate adjustments in teaching and learning based on a student’s unique needs, to enable those with disability to enjoy the same opportunities as their peers.”
