The police station, which has been in operation since 1953, will receive a new façade and further internal upgrades, including the most up-to-date technology, and secure and safe facilities to accommodate victims of crime. Work is expected to start early next year.
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Police, Paul Toole, says the revamp comes after calls from local police and the community.
“We have listened to those requests and delivered funding to provide a modern, state-of-the-art police station to meet the needs of south-west Sydney now and into the future,” he said.
“The upgrades will allow the station to accommodate the growing number of officers in the Bankstown Police Area Command.”
State MP for East Hills, Wendy Lindsay, says the upgrade will be much welcomed by the community, and having advocated for the upgrade since being elected in 2019, she is proud to see it is coming to fruition.
“I’m glad this upgrade will contribute to the station’s efficiency and security,” she said.
South West Metropolitan Region Commander Assistant Commissioner, Stuart Smith, said the purpose-driven upgrades would support the future needs of policing resources for the area.
“All of our local officers – whether they are general duties officers patrolling our streets, or specialist officers working behind the scenes – work hard to keep our communities safe, and it is vital we provide the state-of-the-art facilities they need to do these important jobs,” he said.
