Growing up in a home which bordered Graf Park, Yagoona – the home ground of North Bankstown Soccer Club – it wasn’t long before seven-year-old George convinced his parents in 1999 to let him register to play.
Coached by present Club President Mark Kearns until he was 17, George only left the club because they didn’t have an all-age team at the time, moving elsewhere and joining another club for a couple of years while finishing university.
Now an accomplished engineer, he chose to return to Yagoona to raise his family to not only be near his parents who still live in the same house but so that his young boys could enjoy the same benefits of growing up in the North Bankstown Soccer Club family as he did and make friends for life.
George said it was great to return and find that Mark and Catherine Kearns were still at the club, with Mark initially coaching his son Lucas, 5.
“I’ve now taken over the coaching of Lucas’ team,” he said.
“I’ll start training my younger son, Marcus, 4, next year too.”
“I think it’s fantastic for children to have friends outside of school and playing soccer here at North Bankstown is ideal.”
The 31-year-old said it was wonderful to be back.
“It’s a really safe, supportive club community and we’re all looking forward to the 70th celebration to catch up with friends,” he said.
