Singing, dancing, visitors back as Covid restrictions eased off
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said NSW had come a long way since the virus arrived here and we should be proud of the position we are now in. Standing at the bar is still out but congregations can once again sing at places of worship.
Up to 30 people at a time can also now hit the dance floor at weddings and more than 50 visitors are allowed into homes after Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the easing of a range of Covid-19 restrictions from last Friday.
“With the rollout of the vaccine now underway, and no new locally acquired cases in NSW, we are able to make further changes towards a new ‘Covid normal’,” she said.
However Ms Berejiklian also warned against becoming complacent and urged people to continue to follow the health advice “to keep the virus at bay”.
Welcoming the news, Granville Diggers general manager Steve Rodrigues said they were looking forward to more people being able to visit their new restaurant, Poppies Brasserie, which opened this year.
“We just want to help keep the community, and all our members, safe and informed – that’s the most important thing for us,” he said.
“We are a great local club and a place to get back to the community, and where people love to meet.”
Also pleased by the easing restrictions, Lidcombe Bowling Club secretary manager Les Caldarevic said it was a little disappointing that dancing won’t be allowed in time for the upcoming free Parkhouse gig from 3-7pm on Sunday, March 7.
“But at least everyone can still enjoy the live music,” he said.
“We’ve been desperate to get back to some normality, and our members are very keen to be back playing bowls and coming back into the club on a regular basis.”
And after undergoing three Covid-19 tests since Christmas – all of which were negative – he says he will be one of the first in line for the vaccine when it becomes available.
