Restore train link direct to city win

TRAIN commuters at Berala and Regents Park can breathe a sigh of relief with the temporary restoration of a direct link to the city from mid-year.

The NSW Government’s decision to temporarily restore the service follows the 11-year community campaign of residents from Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar, Birrong and Yagoona, “to keep our stations open with direct trains to Central”.
The Restore Inner West Line and Save T3 Bankstown Line community action groups thank the many thousands of commuters who rallied for the return of the former T2 Inner West Line service – ‘City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park’.
Transport for NSW had intended to replace trains with buses or run a limited shuttle between Lidcombe, Cabramatta and Bankstown, without any direct trains to Central.
The Restore Inner West Line and Save T3 Bankstown Line groups will continue to fight for the permanent restoration of train services from the City to Liverpool and Bankstown via Regents Park, and direct trains between Liverpool and Bankstown, with its convenor Roydon Ng saying they would keep fighting to have train services in the long-term future beyond this year.
“We will keep fighting to have train services in the future beyond the 2024 timetable,” he said. “Is it unreasonable to need a train to Central Station?”
