One year after calling on Cumberland Council to produce a resource pack to help residents understand the rules and regulations and better inform them about the existing support system in a faster way, Cr Sabrin Farooqui has welcomed it becoming reality.
The small booklet provides the names and numbers of various essential services such as women’s safety, men’s health and well-being, general health support, volunteering, English classes, youth support and services, aged support and services, disability support and child safety.
Cr Farooqui said that having worked with many newly arrived migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, and with 53 per cent of Cumberland residents born overseas, she realised that extra support was needed.
The resource pack (soon to be offered in Arabic, simplified Chinese, Nepali, Tamil and Turkish) will be available in hard copy at libraries, community centres and other key places, and online at cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
“With this handy printed booklet, information on essential local services has been brought to the fingertips of our residents,” Cr Farooqui said.
