Rescue pet hunt for forever family

AFTER all-time high adoption rates during the pandemic, PETstock Milperra wants to continue the push to give stray pets a home during National Pet Adoption Month in March.

The store will play host to its local animal rescue organisation on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, an initiative of The Petspiration Foundation (formally PETstock Assist) with support from its event partner PetRescue.
With one in five families acquiring a dog or cat in recent years, the Petspiration Foundation is encouraging more to consider adopting a pet most in need, with more than 7,400 animals currently looking for a forever home.
PETstock Milperra manager Alan Collis says all pets deserve a safe and loving home, and National Pet Adoption Month is the perfect opportunity to meet pets searching for a new family.
“We’ve got some beautiful fish and ‘learner’ tanks that come with everything that you need,” he said.
“Fish are the perfect stepping stone for developing pet responsibility in children.
“We also have some gorgeous guinea pigs which we sell in pairs as they’re like love birds and always are happier and do better with a mate, even if the same sex.
“A lot of people also pop into say hi to our cats ‘Hubba’ and ‘Bubba’ as they are so striking in their tuxedoed-coloured coats.”
Alan says he is a passionate supporter of adopting rescue pets.
“I’ve got a King Charles Cavalier named ‘Maggie’ and she will be coming into work with me on the Sunday; everyone’s welcome to come in and say hi at our store at 349 Henry Lawson Drive,” he said.
