The Vietnam veteran, a medic in Platoon 5, was recognised in the book, ‘The Platoon Commander’, by John O’Halloran, who wrote: “At about lunchtime while we were out patrolling we heard a loud explosion and saw a great cloud of dust go up from the minefield. One dead and a number badly wounded.
Our medic ran into the minefield and treated the wounded and then dragged them back out from the minefield.”
