Relief for seniors

Seniors who are self-isolating due to COVID-19 and don’t have access to food and essential supplies will receive emergency relief packages distributed by Cumberland City Council and partner organisation AusRelief.

“We are in the midst of a health crisis and when hardship strikes, we want to be quick to offer support,” Mayor Steve Christou said.
“These relief packages contain the basics and ensure people who need urgent support during the pandemic are able to access basic items.
“They are available for vulnerable Cumberland seniors aged over 65 years or over 50 years for people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, who are in self-quarantine during COVID-19 and do not have any other support networks who can assist them during this time.
“All requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and we will be prioritised based on those in greatest need.
“Any resident can call Council to receive information and if they are not eligible, we will do our best to connect them with other assistance that is available.
“We need to look out for each other over the next few months – so for our residents who have no one nearby to support them, we’ll make sure you get what you need.”
The one-off relief packages will be provided at no cost to eligible recipients.
The relief packages are designed to provide essential items for two weeks and vary in quantity depending on size of household and circumstance.
Packages will be delivered to the door of self-isolating households which meet the criteria. All staff and volunteers have relevant checks including NSW Police and Working With Children checks as appropriate.
Clients will be informed in advance of the details of delivery.
Emergency Relief Packages include: Cereal, Cooking sauce, Cooking oil, Canned beans x 2, Vegetable stock, Sugar, Rice, Lentils, Pasta, Muesli, Tuna, Biscuits, Tim tams, Juice, Wet wipes, Hand wash,
Dishwashing soap, Spray and wipe, Pads, Shampoos, Chux wipes,
Spray bottle and Water bottles.
Subject to supply, some alternatives may be provided.
There is limited choice as to products provided and Council may not be able to cater for dietary and cultural requirements.
